Description: Dear Inseader, How lucky we were. On our first US Salamander Skiing competition we had some great weather and snow! Probably not surprising in Alta, Utah. We had 16 racers flying down the slopes out of a group of over 20 attendees. The 2008 Skiing champion is our fellow German (from Bavaria) living in Virginia (how typical) Frederich von Rohrscheidt, who was chased VERY closely (10 cents of a second) by our Canadian (but a long time NYC resident) Eric Foch. On the women group Dorte Trionfi managed to keep on front of a very competitive group and became the women champion of 2008! Noticeably our group was pretty good, Alta gives rating of all racers that have ever competed in Alta by age group, and as a group we managed to have a staggering 70% gold medals from a very large pool. You can imagine the tension of all these champions coming down. Must admit age handicaps helped! But still, it was the same for everyone. On Saturday night we all had a great dinner where the prices were given and we all had a jolly good time talking about our day. The turnout was very typical INSEAD with people from all over the US (Ca, NY, DC, MA, VI) and nationals of Germany, Canada, US, Russia, Iran, UK, Danish, Italian, Irish etc. Everybody voted to have the same next year in the same place, and we all have our personal objectives to beat, such as Andy with his own personal record to break!
