2007 June Newsletter
Dear Fellow Alumni,
BRIGITTE MOREL-CURRAN: OUR NEW EVP REGIONS
I have the great pleasure of announcing an exciting transition on our Alumni Association team: Effective June 1st, Brigitte Morel-Curran, who has been the Midwest regional president, is taking over from Michel Darnaud as EVP Regions for the US Alumni Association. In this role, Brigitte will work with the national team to support the regional presidents, manage transitions andfacilitate sharing of ideas. Brigitte will be replaced as the Midwest alumni group president by Marco Baissas.
Brigitte, MBA '78 has been based in Chicago for eight years, first with Ernst & Young Consulting, then Capgemini, and more recently, as a senior partner at Korn/Ferry in charge of Leadership Consulting and Talent Management Solutions. As the US Association?s regional president for the Midwest for the past five years, Brigitte brings to her new national role a good understanding of the challenges for regional presidents. We all are thrilled that Brigitte will continue to volunteer her considerable talents and energy to our national organization.
Marco Baissas graduated from INSEAD in December 2003. He spent the first six months on the Singapore campus then went to Fontainebleau. Marco is based in Minneapolis where he works for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a strategy consultant. Prior to this, Marco worked for Texas Instruments both in the US and in France, initially in sales / business development, then in strategy and corporate development. Since his arrival in the Midwest, Marco has been very engaged with the Alumni Association. As the head of the Midwest region, Marco will not only be working to promote our alumni association in the Midwest, but will also be a valuable member of the national team.
I want to thank Michel, Brigitte, and Marco for their strong commitment to the INSEAD alumni community in the US. Michel and Brigitte have done a stellar job in their former roles. We are all grateful to Michel who has guided an ever-strengthening national network across ten geographic regions, and we?ll miss his steady leadership. We welcome Brigitte and Marco into their new roles: you?ll be hearing great things from them!
Cordially,
Tommaso Trionfi, MBA '90D, President, USIAA

MICHEL DARNAUD: Eight Years of Service to the US Alumni Community
Dear Fellow Alumni,
| Please join me in saluting Michel Darnaud, who, after an impressive |
Projects that Michel launched with help from the team include setting up an INSEAD LinkedIn community, helping regions to restart or expand their activities, and implementing term limits for volunteers to foster creativity and dynamism.
In the last three years, Michel became increasingly involved in
promoting the US Association?s role in the international community of
alumni associations worldwide. He attended several international alumni
association meetings in Europe, and worked closely with Fontainebleau on
international initiatives such as Harris Direct.
During his tenure as EVP Regions, Michel worked closely with Yusuf Khapra, our current EVP Operations, and Helen Vasilevski, our former EVP Operations. Yusuf states, "Michel has been a terrific advocate for alumni all over the States. Over the past 14 months, I have come appreciate his pragmatism, tenacity and most over his Gallic wit in our collaboration as co-EVP's. I will miss his Franco-Californian perspective in our regular team meetings and wish him all the best."
Helen remembers vividly the first time that she and Michel met in NYC after having worked for over a year together bi-coastally over the phone and email. "Michel truly was outstanding at managing a remote team of dedicated volunteers and worked closely with all the regional presidents to strengthen the US Association in every region across the country. The beauty of the INSEAD network is that no matter where one is, we remain connected by a shared bond; I wish him well in his future endeavors and hope that Michel continues to share his INSEAD passion with INSEAD alumni."
Asked what he plans to do with the surfeit of 'new-found time' resulting from his "retirement", Michel said, "I was hoping to effectively retire from most INSEAD-related activities, but now I seem to find myself involved in connecting alumni entrepreneurs with alumni investors! I have most enjoyed working with Anne, Helen, Daniel, Yusuf, Kevin, and the entire team of national and regional volunteers. I will miss the spirit that Helen so eloquently described. I am particularly pleased to know that Brigitte Morel is taking over my role, and I'm confident that she will do a fantastic job. I wish great success to Tommaso and his new team."
Michel is starting a financial media company with a partner, in addition to continuing to consult with start-ups. His passions include parenting his two children, Adrien, 14, and Chloe, 11, and traveling, when not enjoying life in Northern California.
Michel will continue his INSEAD involvement as a member of the US West Coast Advisory Committee. While I had the pleasure of working with Michel only briefly, I admire Michel's staunch commitment to the INSEAD community. On behalf of the USIAA, I express our gratitude to Michel and wish him continued success and happiness and I hope to continue to be able to seek his advice for the next three years!.
Cordially,
Tommaso Trionfi, MBA '90D, President, USIAA

Happenings in the INSEAD Community
INSEAD Award for Transcultural Leadership
On April 24th Dean Frank Brown presented the INSEAD Award for Transcultural Leadership to John Thain, CEO of the New York Stock Exchange and Jean-François Théodore, Chairman of the Managing Board & CEO of the European Stock Exchange, Euronext. These two leaders in the financial field were honored for their role in creating the first ever transatlantic stock exchange.
The awards dinner took place at the Racquet & Tennis Club on Park Avenue, New York. In addition to recognizing these business leaders, the event was a major fundraiser in support of the INSEAD USA office to be opened later this year. Over $300,000 was raised and the entire INSEAD community thanks the generous sponsors, supporters and volunteers for the evening. For their tireless fundraising efforts, special thanks goes out to several members of INSEAD's US Advisory Council: Roberto Buaron, Paul Desmarais, Daniel Lebreque, Kevin Ryan and Tom Barry. Alumni Sponsors of the evening deserve our applause and include: Tim Kingston, Tom Cahill, Paolo Taddonio and Jonathan White.
Moderated by Rick Smith, the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek, both of the honorees spoke about the challenges they faced in creating a transatlantic financial market by integrating the two exchanges. The evening included a talk by Stephanie Lim INSEAD MBA'05D who spoke warmly about her experiences on both campuses and her studies at Wharton in Philadelphia.
Fundraising efforts are always ongoing to support INSEAD?s mission to educate the most diverse group of MBA candidates and executives and build the case for Transcultural Leadership. Please make a tax-deductible donation to INSEAD by going www.inseadusa.com and clicking on the Donate to INSEAD online icon.

Career Services News
Spotlight on Careers
Our Luxury/Retail Group in New York, led by William Kemnitz, organized an event "Spotlight on Careers" featuring Guillaume Gauthereau, President & CEO of LALIQUE North America at Le Club 34 of L'Oreal USA on May 17. Guilliaume has had a fascinating career, first as a veterinarian in France, then entrepreneur of his own dot.com company, followed by several years with LVMH on the Champs Élysées in Paris, where he managed their biggest and most successful branch with over $500 million sales a year, before becoming Lalique's innovative chief executive. About 30 of us immensely enjoyed his enlightening, colorful and entertaining talk and the lively dialog that followed. Thanks go to Alain Concher (MBA '71), for the wonderful venue for the meeting at L'Oreal's Club 34.
